Chapter 11: "The Last Man" - Alternative Ending

Hi people, we have finsh reading the book 1984, by George Orwell, and we don't like the ending.. it's so simple, so boring. So we have created our own alternative ending, A one with much more action. We hope you enjoy it! And if not, go to the hell!

The door opened again. Winston know wath that means: more pain. O'Brien entered the room.
- How many fingers do you see today, my dear Winston?
- You betrayed me and now you're playing with me.
- It doesn't matter now, it's time to suffer. Julia was as much fraid as you. She also cried. - O'Brien laughed very loudly, he wanted to break Winston down.
- Leave Julia alone, she didn't do anithig wrong!
- Both of you are thought criminals, and you must be punished.
He took Winston and lay him in the machine, but when he was just going to tie is arms, quickly Winston took O'Brien's arm and tie it to the machine. Before O'Brien could have any reaction, he turned on the machine and the both recived a terrible discharge for a while. Winston got to stand up, but O'Brien was in very much pain, he couldn't stand up.
Winston left the machine on at the highest level.
- Where's Julia?
- She's dead - answered O'Brien, and received a deadly descharge.
Winston blew up in rage. He didn't want to believe it. He shouted.
- That isn't true! - But he was talking with a corpse.
He left the room very excited towards the hall and start running. He wanted to rescue Julia, but his uncertainty was killing him. What if she was dead? What have they done to her? - he realized there were no guards or any others prisioners on the building.
Suddenly he saw a red door at the end of a hall and entered the room. There was Julia standing in the center of the room with a gun in her hand, crying.
-Julia! You are fine! He noticed the gun.
-Stand back, you're a traitor! She aimed at Winston.
-No, Julia, they washed your head, the party is evil!
-Big Brother is my leader, i must kill every thought criminal.
Winston have understanded.
-A nation can fall, a man can die, but an idea lives on, after me there will be others like me. The party would never kill every one.
A loud noise, a cold piece of metal. Winston had won, he had defeated Big Brother.

  1. I'm sure George Orwell would have been proud of you, guys. The alternative ending is shocking and powerful. You have turned Winston into a hero.

Now I have a question for you all: what do you think was Orwell's point when he chose to write the ending he wrote?
